Zach Parise Responds To Being Scratched “I don’t agree with the decision”

For the first time in nine seasons with his Minnesota Wild, Zach Parise was made a healthy scratch Wednesday night for a game against the Vegas Golden knights in which the Wild lost 5-1.

Parise was asked about the scratching and had this to say:

“It was disappointing. And I don’t agree with the decision. I’m not sure I’m going to look back on it and say it was a wake-up call, but maybe I can use the rest to my advantage and be ready when we come back.”

Parise was healthy scratched for his role in allowing the Vegas Golden Knights to tie the game with 42 seconds left which resulted in a 5-4 Wild loss.

Zach says he was simply trying to help teammate Marcus Foligno get his first career hat trick and it backfired. I can’t say I blame the guy, that was a pretty great thing to try and do for a teammate and sometimes things on the ice don’t always work out.

“They end up getting the puck, and I saw Foligno change on the backcheck and I didn’t think it would be a good idea for me to change too, so I stayed out there. Unfortunately it was, I guess, the ultimate backfire that they end up tying the game. I know in my heart I had the best of intentions to help Marcus try and get the hat trick and it unfortunately ended the way it did, and here we are.”

It’s a tough situation, the coach was in the right in benching Parise but at the same time Parise was trying to be a good teammate. Either way, both sides need to move past this and continue on with the amazing season they are having as a team.
