Most people when asked at the begging of the season where the Winnipeg Jets would end up in the North Division would have told you somewhere in the middle, perhaps even towards the bottom. To the surprise of some the Winnipeg Jets currently sit second in their division with a 15-8-1 record.
Now it appears that the Jets are setting their site on the post-season, something they were not sure they would reach to start the year. The Winnipeg Jets have great goaltending and a stellar offense but where they lack is on the blueline. If you want to get far in the post-season you need a strong defensive core and this is what sources are letting us know that the Jets are looking to improve before the trade deadline.
The most prominent names we are hearing connected to the Winnipeg Jets are Mattias Ekholm of the Nashville Predators and Alex Goligoski of the Arizona Coyotes. Ekholm would make the most sense as he has the lower cap hit with another year left on his deal and considering the Jets cap constraints the contract they add can not be too large.
This will be something to keep your eyes on as we get closer to the NHL trade deadline which is on April 12th.
