Travis Dermott has been battling for his spot on the Maple Leafs blueline for a few years now. Sources say he is growing tired of the lack of opportunity.
More specifically, he apparently has not been happy being healthy scratched multiple times this season for Mikko Lehtonen.
It’s understandable why he would be bothered by this, his play has been good this year and according to his own coach:
He’s a guy that hasn’t deserved to sit out – Sheldon Keefe
Sheldon Keefe on Travis Dermott: “He’s a guy that hasn’t deserved to sit out. But the only way to get people in is to take people out. We’re actually very encouraged with Dermott’s game. He’s really done everything that we’ve asked of him. Lots of positive things about his game”

The biggest surprise for the Leafs this season has been their defensive depth, would a Travis Dermott trade hurt them in the long run? Not likely. In fact, it may benefit both parties.
The Leafs have been hit by the injury bug this season and are hurting for offensive depth that can put up numbers, something that Travis Dermott’s value would bring in return for the Leafs in any potential trade.
As for Dermott, he’s ready to expand beyond his bottom pairing role and it does not seem he will get that opportunity here anytime soon.
