The Toronto Maple Leafs got their man ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
Announced Sunday afternoon the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired 33 year old forward Nick Foligno from the Columbus Blue Jackets and forward Stefan Noesen from the San Jose Sharks.
Columbus receives Toronto’s first round selection in 2021 and Toronto’s fourth round selection in 2022, while San Jose receives Toronto’s fourth round selection in 2021. As part of the deal, Columbus will retain 50 percent of Foligno’s contract, while San Jose will retain 50 percent of Foligno’s remaining contract.
Nick Foligno has played nine seasons for the Columbus Blue Jackets becoming their captain in 2015. In his nine seasons with the Blue Jackets he put has 334 points in 599 games. He is a hard nosed veteran that plays the game hard and is an excellent addition for the Maple Leafs who see themselves as cup contenders.
The Columbus Blue Jackets and the San Jose Sharks each retained 50% of Foligno’s cap hit, meaning that TOR is only charged $1,375,000
