Well it’s not the outcome most people wanted but it’s the one most expected.
The NHL department of player safety announced tuesday morning that Tom Wilson will not be suspended for his actions against the Rangers monday night but rather fined, $5,000.
Washington’s Tom Wilson has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Roughing NY Rangers’ Pavel Buchnevich.

About 8 minutes into the second period of last nights game Tom Wilson pulled Buchnevich to the ice and then promptly punched him in the back of the head, shortly after he grabbed Panarin by the hair and slammed him to the ice, luckily for Wilson Panarin landed on his shoulder rather than his head.
Tom Wilson has a history of aggressive out of control behavior and the League has a history of doing everything they can to avoid dealing out proper punishment and this is just the latest example.
You can tell by the reaction around the league from fans of all teams that people are not happy about it. How do you feel? Let us know in the comments.
That’s one way to handle a player’s dangerous and reckless actions. That will deter him from doing it again. Very fair that he gets minimal consequences when the player he injured is done for the year. https://t.co/cziXFBmwIn

Unless there's additional supplementary discipline coming for slamming Panarin to the ice, this is laughably bad, even for the Department of Player Safety. https://t.co/zoF8GS7y3C

I cannot defend this one. I cannot fathom only fining him. This is a terrible message to send. https://t.co/HKWHf29tdN
