Taylor Hall Likely To Be Moved Before Trade Deadline

To say things haven’t gone according to plan in Buffalo this season would be an understatement.

Taylor Hall was signed in the off season to a one year $8,000,000 deal and was expected to help push the Sabres over the hump.

Fast forward to today and the Sabres currently sit last in their division and Taylor Hall has just one goal in 20 games. It just hasn’t worked as both parties hoped it would.

Reports are coming out that the Sabres are looking ahead to next season already and are working on moving Taylor Hall before the deadline to recoup some assets and then make a run to re-sign him next season.

For a trade involving Taylor Hall to happen, it is likely that the Sabres would have to retain a good portion of Hall’s $8,000,000 contract.

TSN’s Frank Seravalli had this to say:

I know Taylor Hall has enjoyed his stay to this point. There was talk previously about Hall considering an extension in Buffalo. But the way this season has unfolded — a four-alarm dumpster fire for the Sabres — I don’t see a way in which they don’t trade him at the deadline to try to recoup some assets. If they want to try to sign Taylor Hall in the summer, that would be an option for the Sabres.

At this point, they may have to eat half of his $8 million salary to make it work. He hasn’t scored since the first eight minutes of opening night, but I don’t think a lot of teams around the league are thinking that Taylor Hall woke up and forgot how to play hockey.

Teams that would have the ability to get this trade done with the sabres include the Toronto Maple Leafs who are in the market for a rental to help their playoff chances this year, as well as the Boston Bruins who are looking for some secondary scoring.
