It almost happened this year just before the NHL trade deadline, according to sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman on his 31 thoughts podcast, Marc-Andre Fleury was very close to being sent back to the Pittsburgh Penguins but Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon pulled the plug at the last minute.
“It almost happened last year, he was close to going to Pittsburgh”
This off-season may rekindle the deal that almost happened.
It’s no secret the Pittsburgh penguins are not confident in Tristan Jarry moving forward, at least in a starting capacity. Newly hired Penguins GM Ron Hextall belives in his core and want’s to improve his team where they need it most, at the goalie position.
The knights are also in a tough spot going into this off-season, it became clear towards the end of their run that Lehner is their guy and they can not afford to having nearly $12m tied up in goalies.
Vegas will certainly be looking to add to their already star studded lineup to help them get over the hump next season, something only made possibly by moving out Fleury’s $7,000,000 cap hit.
