Rumor: Leafs Looking At Goalie Ahead of Trade Deadline

The Leafs were a powerhouse to start the season but as of recently they have fallen to 1-6 in their last 7 games and are losing control of first in the north division.

It’s not necessarily that the Leafs have been bad either, they just simply can not find a stop from their starting goalie Frederik Andersen. Of the three goalies that have played for the Leafs season, it’s their starter who has the worst numbers.

Jack Campbell: .958 Save percentage
Michael Hutchinson: .922 Save percentage
Frederik Andersen: .897 Save percentage

Frederik Andersen has also allowed 3 or more goals in his last five games played

It’s no longer an excuse to say he is being hung out to dry behind the Leafs poor defense as the Leafs have drastically improived their blueline and have actually outplayed the majority of teams in most of the games they’ve lost this season.

All of this leads to sources coming out and saying this recent stretch of play for Frederik Andersen has lead Leafs management to start looking for goalies ahead of the trade deadline. GM Kyle Dubas is believed to be in talks with the Florida Panthers for goalie Chris Driedger.

Driedger has performed well for the panthers this season posting a .920 save percentage, he’s only 26 years old and is a UFA following this final year of his $850,000 contract.

The Panthers need to move him soon if they want anything back as they are expected to lose him in the expansion draft. This could move fast, keep your eyes peeled.
