It’s no secret the Leafs have sustained a substantial amount of injuries to start the season which has hurt the depth they acquired prior to this season, those injuries include:
- Joe Thornton
- Nick Robertson
- Jack Campbell
- Auston Matthews
- Travis Dermott
- Wayne Simmonds
Now, with a lack of depth the Leafs are searching for players to bring into Toronto to fill the gap left by their bad injury luck.
Monday, on his 31 thoughts podcast Elliotte Friedman put it out there that he thinks there is a winger the Leafs have their eyes on.
“So I have to tell you I wrote on a piece of paper today a winger that I think the Leafs are interested in and I have put it down and I want to see if it happens, I am not putting it out there yet, I can’t prove it but I think it’s a guy they are interested in and I’m going to wait to see if I can prove it or it happens but I think there is a winger out there they are interested in”
It will be interesting to see who that winger is, one name floating around is Alex Iafallo of the LA Kings. He would fit exactly what the Leafs need, a young winger with offensive upside on a manageable contract. Iafallo is in the final year of a 2 year deal that carries a $2,425,00 cap hit, one that the Leafs could manage if they send the right contract back the other way, Pierre Engvall or Alex Kerfoot perhaps.
It will be interesting to see if Kyle Dubas and the Leafs try to keep this trade in their division to avoid the 14 day quarantine, you would think they need the player asap and would like to avoid that if possible. But, the Leafs and Kings do have quite the history of trades as of late.
Keep your eyes peeled here, we will break it when it happens.
