Rangers rookie takes shot at old coach David Quinn

If you watch former 2nd overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft Kaapo Kakko play this year, you can tell he looks more like the player who the Rangers were so high on in that draft.

In his own words, this could be thanks to Head Coach Gerard Gallant and his coaching philosophy. Kaapo Kakko had this to say in a recent interview with an outlet out of Finland:

“I don’t know about others, but at least my own experience is that now there will be more credit. The first mistake does not immediately put you on the 4th line.”

A pretty clear shot at former Rangers head coach David Quinn who would frequently send Kakko to the fourth line.

In other words, it is amazing what you can get out of a player by providing them with a little bit of a longer leash, rather than demoting them and ruining their confidence after small mistakes.

This is something New York Rangers Gerard Gallant likely learned in Florida as he coached two young rookies who turned into stars in the league, Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau.

Kaapo Kakko is only 20 years old and is off the best start of his career, and he is just getting started.
