The Philadelphia Flyers had a surprisingly bad season this year that has forced GM Chuck Fletcher to make some bold moves this off-season in order to right the ship.
One area the Flyers have been lacking is on the blueline. Before the trade deadline this season the Flyers had been looking into Ekholm but due to the Predators run towards the end of the season that saw them make the playoffs they decided not to pursue moving on from Ekholm, for now.
So who are the Flyers targeting now? Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman in his 31 thoughts article seems to believe it is Seth Jones from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Still hearing a lot of Philadelphia and Jones. The Flyers are definitely working at it.
The 26 year old defenceman is approaching the final year of his 6-year deal with the Blue Jackets that has a cap hit of $5,400,000. Jones is an excellent offensive defenceman who is also responsible in his own zone and can eat a ton of minutes. Sounds exactly like someone the Flyers could use.
Currently, the names being thrown out there that would be going the other way include Nolan Patrick. Patrick has been vocal about wanting a change of scenery, and being a part of this deal will give him that.
Keep your eyes on this one, this is expected to happen before the upcoming NHL draft.
