The Pittsburgh Penguins are killing it lately going 6-3-1 in their last 10 games as they sit comfortably third in their division. However, they are not content with their roster just yet as the NHL trade deadline approaches.
Elliotte Friedman on his 31 thoughts podcast monday afternoon said that the Penguins want a center and it makes sense if you look at their current center depth with Malkin out due to injury. The Penguins know first hand you need depth at all positions to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals and center is one position they lack depth at.
The name they bring up on the podcast is Scott Laughton, now you may be thinking there is no way that the Flyers and Penguins trade with eachother but this is where that gets interesting. The teams could make it a three way deal bringing in another team as a middleman of sorts, as Elliotte Friedman points out;
“they can’t do it together, there is recent history with Mark Streit the year they won the Stanley cup against Nashville. Mark Streit went from Philly to Tampa to Pittsburgh.”
It will be interesting to see if they can get that deal for Scott Laughton done, but if not they will definetly be looking elsewhere as the Penguins look to improve at the center position ahead of the NHL trade deadline on April 12th.
