New York Islanders Looking For 3rd Line Upgrade
The Islanders have been red hot this season, they currently sit first in the MassMutual East division with a 15-6-4 record. But still that’s not good enough for Isles GM Lou Lamoriello who is actively searching to bring in someone that will improve their third line.
Last year the Islanders signed 3C Jean-Gabriel Pageau who has more than worked out for the team, he brings a new life to the 3rd line and currently has 16 points in 25 games. Beside him, Oliver Wahlstrom has also been a pleasant surprise for Islander fans. Wahlstrom has quickly formed a strong duo with Pageau and has 9 points in 18 games. However, that line has been missing a 3rd winger for some time now and that’s where Lou is looking to improve.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period had this to say:
“The New York Islanders are looking to a boost to their third line and GM Lou Lamoriello is trying to acquire a left winger to play with Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Oliver Wahlstrom.
There was some chatter circulating about the Islanders and Florida Panthers discussing a swap of Komarov for Brett Connolly, but the Panthers would need to retain a portion of Connolly’s deal or take on another contract in order to make this work. So far, it hasn’t.
With five weeks up until the trade deadline, expect the Isles to cast a few more lines out there in hopes of strengthening their forward corps.”
This will be something for Islanders fans to keep their eyes on, with an upgrade to the third line they could be serious contenders for the Stanley Cup this year.
