The Montreal Canadiens have fired head coach Claude Julien and associate coach Kirk Muller following their disappointing and controversial overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators.
Although bad, it’s being said that last nights loss was not the final straw for Claude Julien, Habs management actually made this decision beforehand and they planned to announce it today.
Montreal started the season hot but have since cooled down winning only one of 1 of their last 6 games. Claude Julien leaves the Canadiens this time around having coached 253 games with a 112-106-34 record.
Coach Dominique Ducharme has been named the interim head coach of the Montreal Canadiens and the club has added Alex Burrows to the coaching staff.
Here is what Habs GM Marc Bergevin had to say:
“I would like to sincerely thank Claude and Kirk for their contributions to our team over the past five years during which we worked together. I have great respect for these two men whom I hold in high regard,” said Bergevin. “In Dominique Ducharme, we see a very promising coach who will bring new life and new energy to our group. We feel that our team can achieve high standards and the time had come for a change. “
