Montreal Canadiens Expected to Make “Big swing” This Off-Season

Their miracle run to the Stanley Cup finals has certainly set a fire under GM Marc Bergevin and the Montreal Canadiens.

With news of the team losing captain Shea Weber for potentially all of next season mixed with the potential of Jonathan Drouin not returning to the habs and reports of the Canadiens letting defensive standout Phillip Danault go to market without offering him a new deal.

It’s safe to say the Montreal Canadiens are poised to make a big splash this off-season.

Here is what Insider Elliotte Friedman had to say on his 31 thoughts podcast

Bergevin is a wild man, right? When he’s got money to throw, he’ll throw it… I could see Bergevin going out there and taking a big swing, like Landeskog, would it surprise you if that guy got to market and depending on what Bergevin’s situation is here, taking a swing at that? Eichel? Would that surprise you?

So, depending on what the NHL decides to do with Shea Weber and his $7,857,143 cap hit, Bergevin could potentially be going all out bringing in major pieces to help get his team back to the Stanley Cup finals.

Things have been moving quickly the last few days, once the NHL makes its decision on whether it will allow the Canadiens to put Weber’s contract on LTIR, you could expect Bergevin to start making big waves shortly there after.
