Montreal Canadiens Acquire Eric Staal From The Buffalo Sabres, Expected to Make More Moves

The trades are finally happening! Friday afternoon the Montreal Canadiens Acquired Eric Staal from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for 3rd and 5th round picks in the 2021 NHL draft.

Eric Staal hasn’t had a stellar season thus far but too be fair he is playing for the Buffalo Sabres who have lost 15 games in a row. Staal has just 10 points in 32 games this season.

Staal has a $3,250,000 cap hit and is a UFA at the end of this season. This is a good deal for both teams as the Sabres get picks back to hopefully build a decent team in the future and the Canadiens add to their center depth, a position that has been lacking.

The Montreal Canadiens are not done either, Marc Bergeron has been asking around the league about available top four blueliners. Mattias Ekholm is the name that’s been connected to the Habs.

Keep your eyes peeled!
