Well if you didn’t think Toronto Maple Leafs star player Auston Matthews could get more impressive, it turns out he currently sits first in the Rocket Richard race and went on an insane goal scoring streak all with an injured wrist.
Matthews 16 game point streak was halted just two shy of the franchise record held by Darryl Sittler and Ed Olczyk against the Calgary Flames.
He currently has 18 goals in just 20 games and as we found out in their last outing against the Calgary Flames, it was all done despite a nagging wrist injury that caused him to miss time earlier in the season.

Darren Dreger has the inside scoop on the injury and had this to say about it:
“It’s not a new problem in fact he’s aggravated something that he has been dealing with for quite some time now. That sounds a bit alarming I guess from a Toronto Maple Leafs fan perspective but it shouldn’t be, I’m told that it’s not structural and that this isn’t serious.
In fact it’s very minor but then you look at the games this week against the Calgary Flames and you can see that Sheldon Keefe and the coaching staff had to make adjustments. On Monday it appears that Matthews was avoiding the one timer and they made adjustments to the structure of that power play, but then you look at his time on ice and it’s normal and his production versus the Calgary Flames at least in game 2 was up there as well. “
There you have it, serious or not the point remains Auston Matthews leads the league in goals by a wide margin and he’s done that with a nagging injury to a part of the body that is very important to shooting the puck.
