Wayne Simmonds has put the League on notice.

It started thursday night as the Toronto Maple Leafs took on the Winnipeg Jets. Pierre-Luc Dubois took some extra jabs at Leafs goalie Jack Campbell and Wayne Simmonds wasn’t having it.

Simmonds was given a 2 minute penalty for defending his goalie.

The Jets said following the game they were not happy about the physical play from the Maple Leafs Thursday night to which Simmonds responded:

“Every time we’ve played them, they’ve tried to run us out of the building to start games. We come back & we’re physical & now we’re a dirty team? I don’t buy that. We’re defending ourselves”

Today during his meeting with the media he was also asked about the penalty he recieved for removing Dubois from Campbell’s crease. Simmonds had this to say:

“I’m sick of guys jumping on our goalie & being allowed to spear our goalie & the refs not calling it”

It’s clear as we get closer to the post season the Leafs are already revving up their physicality for playoff hockey, something the Winnipeg Jets are not too thrilled about.
