Leafs backup goaltender Petr Mrazek is set to return soon, and that means the Leafs are going to need to shed cap space to remove him from LTIR.
It appears, in order to do so, the Leafs are looking to move one of either Justin Holl or Travis Dermott.
Justin Holl is the likely candidate as he is the older player and makes more money with his $2m cap hit.
Here is what insider Frank Seravalli had to say:
Kyle Clifford is one easy transaction. But the Leafs will need to shed more than that. There are other ways, including waiving Wayne Simmonds or trading Nick Ritchie. Since Timothy Liljegren has played himself into an everyday role, the Leafs have had interest in both Holl and Travis Dermott, but Holl is older and earns more – in a role that’s not commensurate with his pay.
With Mrazek expected to return after a brief conditioning stint with the Marlies, Kyle Dubas will be working overtime to get something done.
