Joel Quenneville out as head coach of the Florida Panthers

Breaking news tonight.

After his meeting with Gary Bettman, Joel Quenneville has resigned as head coach of the Florida Panthers. This according to ESPN’s Kevin Weekes.

Andrew Brunette will take over as the interim head coach.

It is unclear at this time who will take his place permanently behind the bench, but John Tortorella is said to be a candidate.

This of course stems from the report that was released following an investigation into the Chicago Blackhawks organizations role in covering up sexual abuse.

Before the report was made public, Quenneville had denied knowing anything about the situation until it came to light this summer.

That statement appears to have been disproven by the investigation, which showed that Quenneville was a part of meetings about the sexual abuse that had taken place during the teams 2010 stanley cup run.

According to the investigation, when he found out about the event that had taken place, he was angry and concerned about the event possibly upsetting team chemistry.

Still no word on Kevin Cheveldayoff who was also mentioned in the investigation, his meeting with Gary Bettman has been moved to Friday.
