Jim Benning Tries to Make Things Better While Making Them Much Worse

Canucks fans are furious with their current GM Jim Benning. Yesterday he took to the podium to discuss a few things, among them how he didn’t have time to sign Tyler Toffoli.

Tyler Toffoli has been making the Canucks and Jim Benning pay for that, putting up 8 goals and 3 assists for 11 points in just 5 games against his former team. Here’s what the soon to be Former Canucks GM had to say.

“It was our intention to try and get him signed and if we could have had a little more time, we could have tried to work through that,” Benning said Wednesday. “It got to a point where I know Tyler wanted to come back and we were trying to figure it out. “We kind of ran out of time with him getting offers and one he needed to take. We would have had to move money out.”

It’s hard to blame Toffoli for moving on and not wanting to wait while he had an offer on the table in such an uncertain time like this, he had to do what was best for him and his family. No, the honus lies with Jim Benning the Canucks GM who as he puts it, ran out of time to do his job.

As Jason Brough and Mike Halford put it last night, the chickens are coming home to roost.

I used to defend Benning all the time. Not anymore. He’s gotta go and soon. You can’t have a GM these days that only knows talent or economics, you need both and JB fails so horribly at economics, he should have been a politician.
