Islanders Free Up Cap Space To Make Big Moves Ahead of Trade Deadline
Out of some very unfortunate news for the Islanders and their fans comes a ray of sunshine.
The New York Islanders have announced they are placing Anders Lee and his $7m cap hit on LTIR. Lee was injured during Thursday nights game against the New Jersey Devils with what is being called a lower body injury, he is expected to miss significant time.
#Isles announce Anders Lee is on LTIR, retroactive to Mar. 11. This means two things:
1 — He’s not coming back during the regular season
2 — #Isles can now use his $7-million cap hit to add to their NHL roster.

Now that the Islanders have placed Lee on LTIR, they have $7m worth of cap space to work with before the trade deadline.
We reported earlier that the Islanders are looking for a 3rd line upgrade but you have to think now that they have this boost in unexpected cap space they will look to add to their top six.
If the Islanders use all of their now available $7m in cap space, Anders Lee will still be allowed to return for the Playoffs as the salary cap does not apply in the post-season.
Keep your eyes peeled Islanders fans, things are going to heat up here fast.
