As the off-season for teams out of playoff contention continues to stretch on we are starting to see where some of the big names on the market are likely to go.
It’s no secret the Buffalo Sabres are basically holding an auction on their players, they want a fresh start and those players deserve one as well. Next to Jack Eichel, the second biggest name in the trade market from Buffalo is Sam Reinhart who is a restricted free agent as of season end.
The 25 year old forward is coming off of an impressive season putting together 40 points in just 52 games on a pretty abysmal Buffalo Sabres team and that has not gone unnoticed.
According to Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman, he believes the Columbus Blue Jackets are the team most likely to land Reinhart. Here’s what he had to say on his 31 thoughts podcast:
Q: Wheres some of the main interest from what you’ve been able to glean for for Sam Reinhart?
A: Columbus. I’ve been told some of the teams that are in on Eichel might also be in on Reinhart, so for example say Eichel doesn’t end up in Anaheim it doesn’t mean that Reinhart couldn’t end up there. But I’ve heard Columbus and Reinhart a lot.
The destination makes sense in the wake of new Blue Jackets head coach Brad Larsen’s comments in the media the other day saying:
“We are going to surround him with best players possible”
Larsen was in The Torg and Elliot show this morning. He was asked about Laine. He said “We are going to surround him with best players possible” 👀 “We are not going to make him something he’s not” #cbj
