Insider: Bruins Calling Nashville Predators on Defenseman
The Boston Bruins are in full win now mode. Management still believes this core has what it takes to bring another Stanley Cup Championship to Boston.
It’s been reported that the Bruins are actively looking to plug holes on their blueline left by the departure of Zdeno Chara and Torey Krug. Insider Pierre LeBrun believes the Bruins have eyes on Nashville Predators defensman Mattias Ekholm.
Here is what LeBrun had to say:
Our esteemed Bruins beat writer Fluto Shinzawa earlier this week had a really good piece, pointing out that while Ekholm checked all the boxes for the B’s, the fact that he’s the most sought-after player on the trade market doesn’t fit the deadline style of GM Don Sweeney. And I mean, you might argue that the Bruins need more second-line forward help right now than anything. But I still think Ekholm to Boston is a match made in heaven.
Like he said, Ekholm does indeed check all the boxes for the Bruins. Ekholm is a responsible defenseman that can provide some offense and he is on a bargain contract that has a $3,750,000 AAV.
The Bruins window to win another Stanley Cup Championship is closing with their best players in Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand aging, they look good this year but age catches up with everyone so it would be expected the Bruins will be all in once again this year.
Keep your eyes on this one, the NHL trade deadline is April 12th and quickly approaching.
