The Florida Panthers continue their off-season quest to improve their team as much as possible. They loved their team this year and although they are disappointed in their post-season results, they are happy with what they’ve seen. Panthers Management is keen on adding to this team to give them an even better shot at the Stanley Cup next season.
One name being floated around, this time by sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman is former first round pick and 40 goal scorer Patrick Laine of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Laine looked dominant in his first and only game with the Winnipeg Jets this season but never found his game with the blue jackets. The 27 year old goal scorer is an RFA in need of a new contract and some are speculating that he does not wish to sign with the Blue Jackets.
Here is what Elliotte Friedman had to say in his 31 thoughts article:
I’m curious to see if Florida asks about Patrik Laine. He and Aleksander Barkov have a good relationship. The Panthers are expected to be aggressive in pursuit of improvement.
Laine on the wing of Barkov is certainly an interesting thought, it seems like the kind of spot that could return Laine back to his former 40 goal scoring self. Just look at what happened with Sam Bennett once he was moved out of Calgary and got to see some time alongside Barkov, he put together 15 points in just 10 games compared to his 12 points in 38 games with the flames.
Time will tell, and we will be the first to notify you of any changes in this developing situation.
