Erik Karlsson’s Comments on Sharks “Reset” Sparks Controversy

People are not so happy about Erik Karlsson’s recent comments in an session he did with the media following Sharks GM stating that the team is going through a “reset”.

Here is what Sharks GM Doug Wilson said:

“Are we in the window to win a Stanley Cup this year? That’s highly unlikely,” Wilson said. “Are we going to compete to try and make the playoffs? Yes we are. Are we going to commit to the reset and to younger players getting opportunities? Yes we are.”

It seems Erik Karlsson took issue with Wilson using the word reset, he feels that he has gone through enough “resets” in the 10 years he spent with the Ottawa Senators and that he didn’t sign with the Sharks to go through more of them.

Here are Erik Karlsson’s full comments:

“Obviously, I did not sign here to go through a rebuild or go through what I did for 10 years in Ottawa. But it is what it is. I think that we need to find a way to build with a core group that we have here and figure out a way how to be competitive here in the upcoming years.”

Now, some Ottawa Senators fans did not take those words to kindly. As some Senators fans pointed out Karlsson and his Senators made the playoffs 5 out of the 9 seasons he played for the team and even almost made it to the Stanley Cup finals.

It will be interesting to see where this goes, Karlsson and Wilson will need to sit down to talk about the direction of the team and get back on the same page here. One thing is for sure though, there are some salty Sens fans out there not too happy with his comments.
