The Edmonton Oilers increased their goaltending depth Monday afternoon. The team claimed goalie Alex Stalock after the Minnesota Wild placed him on waivers.
Stalock is a great depth addition to the team that has had a run of bad injury luck to their goaltending in recent months. Now that Mike Smith is healthy it doesn’t hurt to have a guy that can fill in for either him or Koskinen if anything should happen throughout this weird season.
Alex Stalock holds a career .909 save percentage with a 2.61 Goals Against Average in 151 career NHL games. Stalock is signed for the remainder of this season and through next with a very managable $785,000 cap hit.
If one thing is for certain in this league, especially this year, it’s that you can never have too much depth at the goalie position.
