Contract talks between Dougie Hamilton and the Carolina Hurricanes have hit a stand still.
Hamilton who is set to become a unrestricted free agent this off-season is due for a big pay raise. He currently makes $5,750,000 against the cap and is looking to get something similar to what the Vegas Golden Knights gave Alex Pietrangelo just this last off season which was $8,800,000.
The Hurricanes however want the number to be more of that like what Torey Krug signed for with the St Louis blues, a $6,500,000 cap hit.
Here is what TSN’s Pierre LeBrun had to say:
His agent J.P. Barry did have dialogue last month to start talks on an extension with the Carolina Hurricanes, each side essentially established their position and frankly its gone quiet ever since. I think there is a gap there between the two positions, I would surmise that the player side is more on the Pietrangelo side of things and on the Carolina side more on the Torey Krug side of things in terms of the salary. It’s not like they are going to trade this guy before the deadline, they are all in to win. But they will try to get this done before July 28th.
So it does not sound like it’s time to panic yet for you canes fans, a deal is more than likely going to get worked out. But as of now both sides are not actively negotiating with each other and are standing firm in their positions.
