This roller coaster season for the Senators continues to rock and shake. It was reported during the 2nd intermission of the Vancouver Canucks vs Toronto Maple Leafs game saturday night that the Ottawa Senators center would like to be closer to family and so the Senators are currently working on honoring that request.
“Ottawa is moving to try and make a move with Derek Stepan, I don’t think this is a performance issue as much as it’s a family issue. He’s away from his family and I think they want to get him closer.” – Elliotte Friedman
Derek Stepan was acquired by the Ottawa Senators from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a 2021 second round pick back in December. He has played 11 games for the Senators so far this season with 1 goal and 3 assists.
It’s understandable Stepan would like to be closer to home during this pandemic, playing for a Canadian team makes it much harder to see his family who reside in the USA.
Derek Stepan is in the final year of his 6 year 6.5m deal that he signed with the New York Rangers back in 2015.
