Colorado Avalanche player must respond to doping accusations

News out of russia today.

Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin has until November 16th to respond to an allegation of doping that dates back to 2013, the Russian Hockey Federation said Monday.

This is in regard to a sample given by Valeri back in 2013 which was obtained by World Anti-Doping Agency from the now defunct Moscow anti-doping laboratory in 2019.

“His sample from 2013 was being stored at the laboratory. During the process of reanalyzing results in January and February 2019 a banned substance was found and this case was initiated. There are no decisions yet and nothing has been cleared up,” Kurbatov said in comments reported by the Tass state news agency.”

WADA had attempted to make contact with Nichuskin via his agent last week, but that message was not returned.

Any discipline handed out by the World Anti-Doping Agency would only apply to international play and would not affect him in the NHL.
