The NHL trade deadline is only a few short days away and the Boston Bruins are frantically trying to get deals done. The Bruins are reportedly looking for a mid-six winger and a blueliner by the deadline.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period suggests the Bruins are looking to kill two birds with one stone by acquiring forward Kyle Palmieri and defenseman Dmitry Kulikov from the New Jersey Devils.
Here is what he had to say:
The Bruins could be that club, as they have interest in both Palmieri and Devils defenceman Dmitry Kulikov, also set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Boston is all in, from what I’ve been hearing.
They want a mid-six winger and a blueliner by the deadline and could kill two birds with one stone if they can agree to a deal with the Devils. There’s also been some talk the Bruins or another interested club would want to explore an extension with Palmieri before committing, but that’s not presently the case.
The Bruins still believe they have a shot at the stanley cup this year and pulling off a deal like this would certainly bolster their chances. Don Sweeney isn’t shy when it comes to improving his team and it sounds like he will be working the phones right up to the deadline to get something done.
Kyle Palmieri would add a great scoring touch to the Bruins second line that definitely needs it. Palmieri is having a tough season with just 17 points in 34 games following his stellar season last year where he had 45 points in 65 games, perhaps the change of scenery can get him and the bruins going on a whole new level.
Time will tell as the NHL trade deadline is just one week away.
