Blue Jackets Goalie Had Some Shocking Words Following Playoff Eliminating Loss
With the Columbus Blue Jackets falling 3-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday night they have now been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
It’s not been an easy season for the Blue Jackets, a season which started with their star player demanding a trade followed by a slew of benching’s and healthy scratches to players like Patrick Laine and Max Domi, which can help you see why Pierre-Luc Dubois demanded that trade.
In Blue Jackets Goalie Elvis Merzlikins post-game interview, he lets it all off his chest surprisingly not holding his thoughts in and giving the normal cliche hockey answers. Here is what he had to say:
“I’m tired. I’m tired of losing the games, I know we are trying. This is getting embarrassing. It is what it is. I’m going to be honest with you guys, it’s painful.
Sitting in that locker room … trust me, we are trying. We seriously are trying. We didn’t give up. It’s really just such a bad year … I just want to finish and delete this year and not think about it.
It’s just embarrassing for us and our organization; we’re embarrassing our organization, and that’s the bad part, we are not doing this on purpose. We’re really trying.
I don’t know about the boys, but personally it’s bothering me. I can’t sleep, seriously. What have we lost now, (eight) straight games? This is really sad. You can’t understand … it hurts. For me, personally, it hurts. (Eight) games … that’s seriously heavy.
I don’t want to get to, like Buffalo. I don’t want to get to that point, like Buffalo. Even for them it was hard, but they got somehow through and they find a win. We have to find that way, too.”
It’s refreshing to get some honesty and to understand how a player really feels following the low points of a season. Fans seem to be loving the honesty brought forth by Elvis and it’s hard to blame them. Hopefully things turn around next season for the Blue Jackets, with a new coach and new look.
